Karkala: N Vinay Hegde (86), founder of the Nitte Group of Educational Institutions, noted educationist, and Managing Director of K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, passed away in the early hours of January 1.
Vinay Hegde, the second son of former Supreme Court judge Justice K S Hegde, played a pivotal role in bringing revolutionary changes to the education and healthcare sectors in the coastal region. Through the Nitte Deemed-to-be University, he shaped the future of thousands of students.
He was instrumental in transforming Nitte, once a rural area, into an internationally recognised centre for education. Along with his immense contributions to education, he also made significant strides in the healthcare sector. He was widely respected for his religious and social service activities as well.
In recognition of his contributions, Vinay Hegde received several awards and honours during his lifetime.
Several dignitaries, educationists, and residents of Karkala have expressed deep condolences over his demise.
