Google has warned Apple users that they will stop receiving Google Chrome updates. In its warning, Google has advised Mac users to upgrade their operating system.
Google Chrome Update
Google has issued a new warning for Apple users. No further updates will be released for Google Chrome. Previously, Apple had warned iPhone and Mac users are against using the Google Chrome browser. Apple advised users to use the Safari browser instead, stating that only Safari could protect their privacy.
Google's Warning
Google retaliated against Apple's warning by cautioning millions of users that they should stop using Chrome. Support for Google Chrome will soon be discontinued. This decision by Google will affect millions of Mac users who use Apple's Monterey version operating system.
Google Issues Statement
In its statement, Google explained that Chrome 150 is the last version of Google Chrome that will support macOS 12 (Monterey). Chrome 151 (tentatively scheduled for release on July 28, 2026) is the first version of Google Chrome that requires macOS 13 Ventura or later. To continue receiving Chrome updates in the future, you must ensure that your device is running macOS 13 or later.
Google warned Apple users to stop using Google Chrome if security updates are not available for their version. However, Google stated that the older version of Chrome will still work, but no security updates will be released for it. A new version of Google Chrome will not be released for older macOS versions. Users were also advised that if they want to use the new features of Google Chrome, they should upgrade their macOS to the latest version.
Apple released macOS Ventura in 2022. Since then, macOS 14 Sonoma, macOS 15 Sequoia, and macOS 26 Tahoe have been released. This means Mac users will have to continue using an older version of Google Chrome. Upgrading to a newer version of Chrome requires upgrading macOS. This implies that Mac users will stop receiving Chrome updates after July 26, 2026.
