The 270th session of Rajya Sabha has started and a total of 30 meetings will be held during this session. This is the budget session of Parliament. During this, there will be an in-depth discussion on the Union Budget 2026-27 and the legislative proposals of the government in the House. Additionally, during the vacation period, department- Parliamentary Standing Committees will review the demands for grants of various ministries and departments in detail. Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan gave this information on Thursday.
Along with this, he called upon all the MPs of Rajya Sabha to make meaningful and effective contribution in both the House and committees and the proceedings of Rajya Sabha have been adjourned. The next meeting of the House will be on 1 February 2026 at 11 am.
Earlier, the Chairman informed that along with the budgetary proposals, many important bills will also be presented before the House in the budget session. Extensive discussion is expected on these important bills. The Chairman says that the enormity of legislative business underlines our collective responsibility to make maximum and constructive use of the scheduled time of the House. By doing this the aspirations of the people can be realized.
Vice President CP Radhakrishnan greeted all the members in the 270th session of the Rajya Sabha under the budget session of the Parliament. He said that it is a matter of happiness that India remains the fastest growing economy among the major economies of the world. He said that India is soon moving towards becoming the third largest economy.
He said that the responsibility of Members of Parliament becomes even more important amid India’s growing role and influence in the global economy. This is because the role of Parliament is central in deciding the economic direction of the nation.
Referring to the President’s speech addressed to both the Houses of Parliament, he said that a clear outline of national priorities has been presented in it. Accordingly, Rajya Sabha will also contribute through its legislative and deliberative responsibilities.
Radhakrishnan informed that a total of 30 meetings will be organized during this session, in which the Union Budget 2026-27 and legislative proposals of the government will be discussed in depth. He urged all MPs to ensure strong parliamentary oversight and maintain the highest parliamentary decorum, discipline and order.
He said that democracy is strengthened by diverse ideas and lively debate, but the expression of differences should be respectful and constructive. He expressed the hope that this session should be an example of decency, discipline and dignified conduct.
Quoting the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi, he further said that disciplined and enlightened democracy is the best system in the world. He said that the conduct of members in the House should reflect this discipline and enlightenment.
