According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Government of India has recognized the snow leopard as a keystone species in the high mountain regions of the Himalayas. According to the recent report (SPAI), there are a total of 718 snow leopards in India. Of these, maximum 477 are found in Ladakh alone.
