Former Chief Minister of Kerala and senior CPM leader V.S. Achyutanandan has been awarded Padma Vibhushan posthumously. However, now it has also become clear that his family will not accept this honour. The reason behind not doing this is the ideology of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). Under this, party leaders do not accept government honours.

CPM General Secretary M.A. Baby has also made his and his party's stand clear on this matter. He said that the party's stand is clear that Achuthanandan's family should not accept this honour. He also clarified that the family will take the final decision as per the party's decision.

Baby said that if V.S. Had Achuthanandan been alive, he himself would not have accepted this award, because he always remained firm on the ideology and principles of the party. In such a situation, his family can also take the same decision as him.

The family had expressed happiness at the time of announcement

The time when Padma Vibhushan was announced. At that time the family and the party had expressed happiness over this decision. Achuthanandan's family welcomed it, calling it recognition of his long contribution to society. However, later the family seems to be following the decision of the party high command.

What decision did the family take?

V.S. Achyutananda's son V.A. Arun Kumar has also made his stand clear. He clearly said that the decision will be taken by the party. The pregnant people will also know the same decision. In a post on social media on Thursday, Arun Kumar said that the family has received formal information from the Union Home Ministry about awarding Padma Vibhushan.

He said that the family considers it a tribute to his father's contribution. But, it also made it clear that CPM's ideological policy is against accepting government honours.

Party's decision is supreme

Arun Kumar wrote, as a communist, my father has always followed the principles of the party. The family will also stand by the party's decisions and its ideals. The respect he has received in the hearts of people is bigger than any government award.

However, no formal proposal has been issued yet by CPM in this matter. But, it is clear from the stance of the party leadership that V.S. Padma Vibhushan declared in the name of Achuthanandan will not be accepted.
