Thomas Frank has been sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager 10 days before the North London derby at home against current Premier League leader Arsenal.

“The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the Men’s Head Coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” said Spurs in an official statement on Wednesday, less than 24 hours after a 1-2 loss to Newcastle United. It was the club’s seventh league defeat at ‌home in the Premier League this season.

The 52-year-old Frank, who joined Brentford in 2018 and helped it gain promotion to the Premier League in 2021, had replaced Ange Postecoglou as Spurs manager last summer. While Postecoglou had led the team to a historic Europa League triumph, they barely avoided relegation from top division, finishing 17th last season.

It was a similar story with Frank as the new boss. The club finished fourth in the league phase of the Champions League, qualifying directly for the round of 16, but in the Premier League, it is placed 16th, just five points above the relegation zone.

Spurs are already out of the domestic club competitions. In League Cup, they lost to Newcastle United in the fourth round while in FA Cup, Aston Villa defeated them in the third round.
