On February 14, 2019, one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Indian history took place in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

40 Indian soldiers were killed

A convoy of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) traveling on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was targeted in a suicide bombing. 40 soldiers were killed in this. Since then this date is remembered as 'Black Day' in the security story of the country. There were 78 buses in the convoy. Among these, there were about 2,500 CRPF soldiers from Jammu to Srinagar. There a vehicle laden with explosives hit a bus.

This resulted in massive casualties and destruction. This attack was widely criticized at the international level and after this the security protocols were immediately tightened in Jammu and Kashmir. According to local media reports, Pakistan's militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility and said that a suicide bomber attacked.

In response, India initiated several counter-terror measures. The most important among these was the airstrike on the terror training camp across the border in Pakistan. Tension between the two countries increased rapidly due to military action.
