Jawaban:

1. The character (represented by the great-grandfather) indicates the themes of interconnectedness and environmental harmony. He acts as a symbol of "the common bond" that links human life to the natural world. The abstract concept here is that nature is not something separate from us; it is our very life force.

2. The character shows values of stewardship and respect. These beliefs shape his actions by leading him to live in "harmony with nature and family." Because he values this connection, the family's actions are driven by the belief that they must "care for the land and the trees" as if they were caring for their own blood relatives.

3. Other characters (the descendants) respond to the main character by letting his legacy "connect generations." They use his history to find "a sign of hope" when they face industrial despair. They don't just remember him; they expand his influence as the connection "grew to include blood relatives, the neighborhood, and the area around them."
