Teen dies in horror Southwark fire and another rushed to hospital after escaping blaze

A teenage boy has tragically died after a devastating fire ripped through a flat in Southwark, London, with a second teen rushed to hospital after managing to escape the blaze.

The incident occured at a first floor flat of a six-storey building in Cooper's Road in Southwark, London, just before 3pm on Wednesday (March 18). According to the police, one boy, 16. was pronounced dead at the scene, while another boy has sustained "serious facial injuries". He is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Fire crews from Dockhead, Dowgate, Shadwell and Whitechapel fire stations responded to the incident, which was brought under control after 4.30pm on Wednesday (March 18).

According to London Fire Brigade, four fire engines and around 25 firefighters attended the scene on Cooper's Road. Officials from Brigade's Fire Investigation Unit and the Metropolitan Police Service are investigating the cause of the fire.

A Met Police spokesman told The Sun: "At around 15:00hrs on Wednesday, 18 March, police responded to reports of a fire at a residential address in Coopers Road, Southwark.

"Officers attended with the London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service. A 16-year-old boy was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"His next-of-kin are being supported by specially trained officers.

"Another boy - also aged 16 - was treated for serious facial injuries. He was taken to hospital, where we await an update on his condition.

"The circumstances of the fire remain under investigation, although at this stage the incident is believed to be non-suspicious."
