England fans were left baffled after Marc Guehiwas assigned the wrong club in the latest squad announcement. Thomas Tuchelhas unveiled a 35-man squad for the upcoming internationals against Uruguay and Japan.

Guehi, 25, will have the chance to add to the 26 caps that he has collected for the Three Lions already, having been handed a spot by Tuchel. Bizarrely, the FA’s announcement for the squad claimed he played for the wrong club.

Eagle-eyed England fans pointed out the fact that the announcement claimed he was still a Crystal Palace player. Guehi of course left Selhurst Park in the summer to join Manchester City in a £20m deal.

Since then, the defender has gone on to make 11 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side and has scored once. Taking to social media, one England fan said: “I didn’t know Marc Guehi still plays for Palace.”

Another added: “Isn’t Marc Guehi with Manchester City now?,” while a further asked: “Why am I seeing Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace)?”

Guehi has serious competition in the latest squad as he attempts to stay as first choice ahead of the World Cup. He has been joined in the squad by City teammate John Stones despite his injury-hit season

Newcastle’s Dan Burn, Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa and Jarell Quansah of Bayer Leverkusen have all been named in the squad. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and AC Milan star Fikayo Tomori have all earned recalls to the selection.

Asked why his latest squad is so big, Tuchel said: "We decided to divide it into basically two camps almost, so we bring players in that we haven’t seen who haven’t played so much to open up the picture, and the competition for plane tickets to the US.

“Then from Friday and Saturday, a group of players will come into camp – ten or eleven players who get a rest before and we will then go with a new group and mix of players into the match against Japan.”

England will take on Uruguay at Wembley Stadium next Friday before hosting Japan just a few days later.
