Brendon McCullum is reportedly expected to remain as England head coach despite a disappointing defeats in the Ashes. McCullum's future has been the subject of intense speculation ever since the 4-1 defeat to Australia in the Ashes earlier this year.

Since the defeat Down Under, there have been rumours about what decision the ECB (England & Wales Cricket Board) could make with regard to McCullum's future, and now a fresh update has emerged.

A report in The Times has claimed that McCullum is expected to keep his job as England head coach after a review was conducted by the ECB.

It has been reported that meetings have been held by the ECB with managing director Rob Key and chief executive Richard Gould to discuss potential changes in the aftermath of the defeats over the last few months, particularly in the Ashes.

The ECB are reported to be making their decison regarding McCullum;s future public next week, and despite the 44-year-old remaining in charge, there are expected to be changes made ahead of the summer.

It has been claimed that the ECB acknowledges the "mistakes" they made in the build-up to the Ashes, with such changes expected to affect warm-up matches before away Test series in the future and players getting more County Championship games under their belt to suit their schedule.

After suffering a heavy series defeat to Australia in the Ashes, England went on to win a T20 and ODI series away in Sri Lanka and reached the semi-final of the T20 World Cup, where they lost to eventual winners India.

England have a busy summer ahead with a three-test series against New Zealand and a five-match series against India across June and July, which McCullum is now expected to oversee alongside captain Ben Stokes.

McCullum was recently asked about his future and whether he would want to remain in charge as England's head coach for the summer ahead.

"I'd like to be. I think it's a great job because you're working with some of the most talented players in the world," McCullum told BBC Sport earlier this month.

"I'm not saying it's a great job because it's a lark, I'm saying it's a great job because I'm working with some of the most talented players in the world with an organisation that is very well structured, well run and well supported by the fans."
