Aam Aadmi Party has removed MP Raghav Chadha as the deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha. AAP informed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat that Chadha should not be allotted time to speak in Parliament. Further, the Aam Aadmi Party has submitted a letter to Rajya Sabha Secretariat to appoint MP Ashok Mittal as Deputy Leader of the party in Rajya Sabha.

Is Raghav Chadha Joining BJP?

The development comes just days after AAP leader Sanjay Singh rejected speculation about Raghav Chadha possibly switching to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Singh had called the claims entirely unfounded and without merit.

The senior Aam Aadmi Party leader had said Chadha continued to be an integral part of the party and maintains strong ties with its leadership. He highlighted that Chadha’s nomination to the Rajya Sabha, his responsibilities in Punjab, and relief in legal matters all point to his continued association with the party, making rumours of a defection baseless.

The buzz around Chadha’s possible move gained traction due to his limited visibility in recent weeks. He has largely stayed away from party offices, media briefings, and social media reactions, including during key moments such as party chief Arvind Kejriwal securing relief in the Delhi excise policy case.

Acknowledging this, Singh said Chadha himself would be in the best position to explain the reasons behind his relatively low public profile.

‘No Link Between Low Visibility and Party Switch’

Singh stressed that variations in a leader’s public activity are common in politics and should not be misconstrued as signs of an impending switch. He cautioned against drawing conclusions based solely on reduced appearances.

Singh added that if Chadha were ever to join the BJP, he would be among the first to oppose such a move. However, he reiterated that, at present, there is no indication of any such development.
