Parashuram Jayanti Significance: Lord Parshuram's birth anniversary is being celebrated today. According to mythological beliefs, whenever the limits of sin and injustice have crossed the earth, Lord Vishnu has incarnated in different forms. In this sequence, on the Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakh month, the sixth part of Lord Vishnu was born as the fifth son in the house of sage Jamdagni of Bhargava dynasty and mother Renuka. His birth was not just a coincidence, but a divine provision to free the earth from the burden of tyrannical kings.
Parashuram ji is counted among the seven immortal men i.e. 'Chiranjeevi', who are still considered absorbed in penance on Mahendra Mountain. His personality provides us with a wonderful lesson on the balance of courage and peace.
It is described in the Puranas that his name in childhood was Ram, but his unwavering devotion and strict discipline made him the favorite of Mahadev. To please Lord Shiva, he performed extremely difficult penance for many years in the caves of the Himalayas. Pleased with his devotion, Mahadev appeared before him and imparted to him the knowledge of divine weapons. Lord Shiva had gifted him his powerful ax i.e. 'Parshu', after wearing which he was called 'Parshuram' by Ram. This weapon was not only for war, but became a symbol of protection of justice and destruction of unrighteousness in the society. Through this weapon, Parshuram ji ended the tyrannical powers and made the penance of the sages safe.
According to Vishnu Purana and Mahabharata, at that time the terror of King Kartavirya Arjun of Haihaya dynasty was at its peak. Under the influence of his power, he kidnapped sage Jamdagni's beloved Kamdhenu cow and destroyed the ashram. When Parshuram ji came to know about this injustice, he single-handedly faced that huge army and killed the king. After this, when other kings violated the dignity, he established the dignity of religion by freeing the earth from the tyrannical Kshatriyas twenty-one times. This incarnation teaches us that when all paths to peace are closed, then taking up arms becomes the last and inevitable path to protect Dharma.
Lord Parashurama was not only a powerful warrior, but he also had the heart of a great renunciant and learned Brahmin. Even after conquering the entire earth, he had no greed for kingdom, rather he donated all the land he won to Rishi Kashyap. His decision teaches us that the real purpose of power is not to accumulate wealth, but to do good and serve others. Even today, on his birth anniversary, we remember his wisdom and courage, so that the same feeling of fearlessness and kindness can come in our lives. His story teaches us to live with discipline and remain calm in every situation. His life even today inspires us to follow the right path and support justice.
