New Delhi: A sessions court in Shillong has granted bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main accused in the high-profile murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi. She has been in jail for 11 months.
The case dates back to may 2025, when Indore-based transport businessman Raja Raghuvanshi was killed during his honeymoon trip to Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills. His body was found in a gorge after the couple went missing.
Sonam later came to Uttar Pradesh, from where she was detained. She is accused of conspiring in the murder along with her alleged associate and lover Raj Kushwaha and others.
After an investigation, police arrested her and other accused in the case.
The bail was confirmed by the victim’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, who said the family was informed through legal sources. The family expressed dissatisfaction and indicated it may challenge the decision in court. Other accused in the case remain in judicial custody.
Sonam’s earlier attempts to secure bail were denied by the court. According to an NDTV report, the latest bail petition was filed on the ground that the investigation is over and a chargesheet has been filed. Her father and cousin have arrived in Shillong to give the surety bond for her release.
A 790-page chargesheet has been filed before a local court in Sohra. It has named five accused in the murder.
The case intrigued investigators as the couple who arrived in Shillong for their honeymoon went missing on May 26. The local cops launched a frantic search for the couple. Raja’s body was recovered on June 2 from a gorge. Police later scanned CCTV footage to zeroed on Sonam. She eventually surrendered before the cops in UP, days later.
