After making so many films, he also made a film in Hindi. The name of this film was Satranj Ke Khiladi. Veteran actors like Sanjeev Kumar and Shaheed Jaffrey acted in the film. This is considered to be the only Hindi film of Satyajit Ray's career.

He was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 1984, while he was also awarded the Bharat Ratna in the year 1992.
