Satyajit Ray started making waves with his very first film. His brilliant films include films like Aparajito, Paras Patthar, Jalsagar, Appu Sansar, Devi, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahanagar, Charulata, Nayak, Pratidwandi, The Inner Eyes, Sonar Kela, Bala, Sadgati, Gunshatru and Angtak. After making so many films, he also made a film in Hindi. The name of this film was Satranj Ke Khiladi. Veteran actors like Sanjeev Kumar and Shaheed Jaffrey acted in the film. This is considered to be the only Hindi film of Satyajit Ray's career.

Due to his brilliant work and contribution to the cinema world, Satyajit Ray was awarded many national and international honors. He was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in the year 1984, while he was also awarded the Bharat Ratna in the year 1992. Apart from this, he is also one of the actors who has won the most National Awards in the country. He has a total of 36 National Awards in his name which have been given to him for different categories.
The director was also honored with the National Award in the categories of Best Feature Film, Second Best Feature Film, Best Documentary Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Children's Film and Best Music Director.
