The political atmosphere in West Bengal has become very heated regarding the 2026 assembly elections. Even before the counting of votes, heated statements are being seen between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC). While BJP has claimed a historic victory, TMC has asked its workers to remain alert, fearing irregularities in the counting process.

BJP state president Samakan Bhattacharya claimed outside a counting center in Kolkata that the people of the state have already rejected the TMC government. He said, “The people of the state have rejected the Trinamool Congress government and within a few hours the overwhelming majority will prove it. In the fight between Mamata Banerjee and the public, the public has rejected Mamata Banerjee.” The party hopes to create history by forming the government for the first time in the state.

On the other hand, TMC is trying to return to power for the fourth consecutive time. Party chief and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appealed to her workers and polling agents to remain completely alert during the counting of votes and keep an eye on any suspicious activity.

Mamata Banerjee posted on social media platform “Stay alert. Keep a vigil. Stay awake throughout the night and file complaints. I am getting reports from various places that deliberate load shedding is being done. In areas like Serampore in Hooghly, Krishnanagar in Nadia, Ausgram in Bardhaman and Kshudiram Anushilan Kendra in Kolkata, power is being cut in a phased manner, CCTVs are being switched off and vehicular movement is being restricted near strong rooms,” he said.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari offered prayers at the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Bhawanipur before the counting of votes. He said, “I prayed at the Lakshmi Narayan temple. God is with us. A government that will protect the interests of Sanatan Dharma is about to come.”

Responding to TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee’s demand for re-polling on Falta assembly seat, Adhikari said, “This shows their arrogance. This will not work. Democracy always wins in the country. There were similar situations in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar too, but the public brought change and ended ‘Jungle Raj’.”
