On 7 June 2026, Florentino Pérez was re-elected as the president of Real Madrid and used the occasion to confirm the much-discussed news about José Mourinho’s comeback to the Merengues’ managerial role.
“I am here to defend Real Madrid. We will keep working to ensure Real Madrid continues to win titles. We will remain proud of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the best stadium in the world, and proud to have the best players in the world,” Pérez stated.
He further added, “We are proud that one of the best coaches in the world, a true Madridista like José Mourinho, is returning.”
His remarks made it evident that Pérez is determined to bring back the Portuguese coach. The club’s initial offer to secure Mourinho’s services is reportedly around 15 million euros, which equals the release clause of his current contract.
