CID started questioning Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday evening in the case of fake signatures of MLAs. Following the order of Calcutta High Court, Abhishek Banerjee reached CIG headquarters Bhavani Bhawan before the scheduled time. His car reached CID office at 5:50 pm. Abhishek Banerjee returned to Kolkata from Delhi on Thursday. His plane landed at Kolkata airport at 4:20 pm. After this he went straight to his home in Kalighat. Abhishek left home again at 5:45 pm and reached Bhavani Bhavan before the scheduled time.

Meanwhile, Abhishek Banerjee approached the Calcutta High Court that CID can arrest him. He had applied for protection. The case was heard in the bench of High Court Justice Kaushik Chander on Thursday. The court had asked him to appear at Bhavani Bhawan by 6 pm.
It was said that Abhishek Banerjee will have to cooperate in the investigation, however, CID will not be able to take any strict action against him right now. The case will be heard again after two weeks. Till then strict action cannot be taken against Abhishek Banerjee.
Before the hearing, Abhishek Banerjee's lawyer and party MP Kalyan Banerjee withdrew from the case. He has spoken in public against Abhishek's 'arrogance'. He has said that if Abhishek Banerjee is with him, he will not be able to live with Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee will have to choose between him and Abhishek Banerjee.
Meanwhile, CID also increased the security of Bhavani Bhawan. Additional police and Central Force, RAF were deployed there. Apart from this, tear gas was also kept. CID has tightened security to ensure that there is no untoward situation when Abhishek Banerjee arrives.
The controversy started when the Trinamool Legislative Party sent a letter to the Speaker after electing Shobhandev Chatterjee as the leader of the opposition in the Assembly. It is alleged that there are mistakes in the signatures of many people in the letter. Many people claim that he did not sign. Some names are written in capital letters! That letter had the signature of Abhishek Banerjee as the general secretary of the party.
CID went to his house to interrogate him. Notice was also given to Abhishek Banerjee, but he did not appear even once. After landing at Kolkata airport on Thursday, some people saw Abhishek Banerjee and raised slogans of 'thief-thief'. CID has already collected handwriting samples of three Trinamool MLAs to investigate the signature case.
According to sources, his statement will be recorded at Bhavani Bhawan in the signature forgery case. He will have to write the answers to CID questions practically with his own hand. That means the investigators will have to write questions. Then Abhishek Banerjee will have to write the answers to those questions himself. Ultimately they have to sign. It is being said that this initiative has been taken so that they cannot make any complaint later, such as if they are put under pressure or threatened. In other words, it goes without saying that CID is adopting a completely new strategy in this case.
