Dhumavati Jayanti 2026:Every year Dhumavati Jayanti is celebrated on the Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month. Dhumavati Mata is considered to be the seventh goddess among the 10 Mahavidyas who are worshiped during Gupta Navratri. According to beliefs, worshiping Goddess Dhumavati provides relief from sorrow, physical pain and all kinds of obstacles.

Along with worshiping on this day, by doing some special measures, one also gets relief from the Mahadasha of Ketu. Who is Mata Dhumavati?

According to Kularnava Tantra, Mata Dhumavati is considered the 7th power of the 10 Mahavidyas. According to the legend, Mata Dhumavati was born from the smoke generated from the body of Mata Sati after she jumped into the Yagya Kund and immolated herself. After birth, Mother Dhumavati was distraught with hunger, that is why her body looks dilapidated.

It is also believed that once Mother Parvati felt very hungry. Then mother asked Lord Shiva for a solution to satisfy hunger. On this Lord Shiva asked Mother Parvati to wait for some time. But Mother Parvati could not bear the hunger. As a result, he swallowed Lord Shiva. After swallowing Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati started burning due to his poison. Then Mother Parvati appeared in the form of smoke, who came to be known as Dhumavati.

Method of worship of Goddess Dhumavati

On Dhumavati Jayanti, wake up early in the morning and take bath etc. After this, clean the worship place of the house and purify it with Ganga water. Place a picture of Mother Dhumavati in the worship place of the house. Keep the picture in front and worship it with incense, lamp, fruits, rice and vermilion. Offer food to the mother. Recite Durga Saptashati and chant the mantras of Mata Dhumavati. At the end of the puja, perform Aarti of Mata with camphor.
