Tezzbuzz Desk- The tri-series match played between India A and Sri Lanka A on June 5 made headlines due to both thrill and controversy. The match reached the Super Over, where Sri Lanka had given India a target of 17 runs. In reply, the Indian team could score only 9 runs and lost the match.
However, the real drama of the match was seen on the field after that. After the end of the Super Over, a heated argument broke out between Indian player Vaibhav Suryavanshi and a Sri Lankan player. The situation escalated so much that Vaibhav got angry and allegedly pushed the Sri Lankan player. After this, Sri Lankan wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella intervened and pacified the matter.
It was also revealed in the TV footage that the altercation between the two players was continuously increasing and the tension remained even while returning to the pavilion. Vaibhav Suryavanshi was seen continuously pointing and arguing towards the opposing players.
Another controversy took place in the same match when there was an argument with the umpire regarding a no-ball during Sri Lanka’s innings on a decision of the third umpire. Meanwhile, Vaibhav got up from the dugout and came to the field and got into a scuffle with the umpire, which was later handled by coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar.
Now the possibility of action is being expressed in this entire matter under Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct. According to this rule, inappropriate physical contact of any player with the umpire or other player is considered a serious offense.
Even before in the history of cricket, strict action has been taken in such cases. Virat Kohli was fined 20 per cent of his match fee and one demerit point for a similar violation in 2024.
It is believed that match referee Pradeep Jayaprakash can consider strict decisions like heavy fine, demerit points or even match ban on Vaibhav Suryavanshi based on the report of this case.
At present, all eyes are on the official action of ICC, which will decide whether the matter will be limited to fine only or more stringent sanctions will be imposed on the player.
