New Delhi: Veteran actor Rakesh Bedi has finally responded to the long-running rumor that the script of the popular Dhurandhar franchise was somehow linked to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The actor, known for his acclaimed portrayal of Jameel Jamali in the franchise, dismissed the speculation outright and said the film’s unique brand of humor was the result of creative collaboration rather than political influence.
Speaking at the event, Bedi recalled how some people had claimed that the script for Dhurandhar was being written in the PMO after the film became a major success. Rejecting the theory, the veteran actor said no one in the PMO could even imagine writing the kind of witty and unconventional dialogues featured in the film.
Referring to one of the franchise’s most memorable dialogues, Bedi said, “When the film became a hit, some people said the Dhurandhar script came from the PMO. I asked them, tell me which person in the PMO could write a line like this. Nobody could even think of it.”
The actor also opened up about his collaboration with director Aditya Dhar during the making of the film. According to Bedi, Dhar initially narrated only a brief concept before sending him the complete script. After reading it multiple times, Bedi realized the project was not just tense but intensely dramatic.
Given his strong background in comedy, Bedi felt there were opportunities to introduce subtle humor into the narrative without affecting the film’s serious tone. He approached Dhar with the idea of adding light-hearted moments in selected scenes.
Bedi revealed that while Dhar was initially cautious about incorporating comedy into the high-stakes thriller, the director remained open to experimentation. As the film progressed, several comic moments naturally found their place in the narrative, eventually becoming some of the franchise’s most loved elements.
The actor’s remarks have once again sparked discussions among fans about the creative process behind Dhurandhar, particularly the balance it struck between intense storytelling and memorable humor.
