Read, Digital Desk : After the conclusion of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2026 where the Royal Challengers Bengaluru managed to lift their second straight title, details have surfaced about the schedule of the next edition of the league.
The IPL (Indian Premier League) 2027 still feels a long time away. However, despite the tournament being almost a year away, a potential new schedule has been unveiled. The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) secretary Devajit Saikia revealed in an interview that the board is considering the possibility of starting the IPL season earlier from 2027 onwards. According to Saikia, the tournament could commence as early as March 10th, as opposed to the usual end-of-March start date, and conclude around May 15th to circumvent weather issues. “This year, IPL started around the 29th of March, and it was over by the 31st of May. The only thing we are discussing is that during the fag end of the tournament, after 15th of May, there are issues regarding the weather, particularly in some areas, there is apprehension of having rainfall or the pre-monsoon season starting,” Devajit Saikia told PTI. Saikia, notably, did speak on how a few days’ earlier start could benefit in evading the climate as, by the time of the final of the IPL, it is usually the pre-monsoon season throughout the country. ‘We’ll make an effort and I have already instructed our general manager games development to look for the windows whether we can start it by 10th of March so that we want to conclude it by 15th of May so that there is no adverse weather conditions in the run-up to the final stages playoff and the finals of the IPL 2027 which will be the 28th edition of IPL,” he added. Expansion of IPL also discussed by Saikia Saikia also addressed the age-old discussion about expanding the number of games in an IPL season. According to him, it is not currently possible to extend the two-month-long window as the foreign players would find it too difficult as they would need to stay for long periods in the country for the same.
