According to the latest bank holiday list, most bank branches across India will operate normally on June 25, whereas many cities and states will observe a holiday on June 26 due to Muharram.
According to the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) official holiday calendar, banks are closed today, June 25, for Muharram only in Andhra Pradesh (Vijayawada circle). In Uttar Pradesh, Delhi-NCR, and other states, the official Muharram holiday is scheduled for tomorrow, June 26. Therefore, if you plan to visit your branch today, Thursday, June 25, you can do so without worry.
As per the RBI's holiday list, banks will remain open in most states. Consequently, services such as cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque transactions, account-related services, and customer support will continue as usual.
Why was the holiday changed in Kerala?
Initially, a public holiday for Muharram was proposed for June 25 in Kerala. However, following the sighting of the moon and consultations with Muslim organizations, the state government rescheduled the holiday to June 26, coinciding with Ashura. Consequently, in Kerala too, government offices, schools, colleges, and bank branches will remain open on June 25, with the holiday being observed on June 26.

June 27, 2026 (Saturday) – Being the fourth Saturday of the month, all banks across India will remain closed.
June 28, 2026 (Sunday) – Weekly holiday.
June 29, 2026 (Monday) – Banks will remain closed only in Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) on the occasion of Sant Guru Kabir Jayanti.
June 30, 2026 (Tuesday) – Banks will remain closed only in Aizawl (Mizoram) on the occasion of Remna Ni.
