Newcastle United have received a timely boost in their efforts to secure a top-tier replacement for Anthony Gordon. German side RB Leipzig are reportedly ready to lower their transfer demand to around £43 million for their talented 21-year-old winger Antonio Nusa, a player who has been extensively monitored by the Tyneside club throughout the summer transfer window.

Magpies keeping tabs on Norwegian prodigy

As per reports from Chronicle Live, Newcastle’s recruitment department has been keeping a close eye on the quick-footed Norway international, viewing him as a leading contender to fill the gap on the left wing following Gordon’s move to Barcelona. Club scouts were present in New Jersey to watch the young forward in action during a World Cup fixture against Senegal, where he impressed with his flair and composure. Although Nusa remains under contract with Leipzig until June 2029, the club’s reduced valuation could now make a Premier League move feasible.

Nusa discusses his playing style

Aside from his attacking prowess, Nusa’s strong defensive discipline and commitment to tracking back have drawn the attention of Newcastle boss Eddie Howe. The winger is known to thrive under tactical freedom in the attacking third, allowing him to fully display his creativity and dribbling skills.

Sharing his thoughts on his football approach, Nusa remarked: “I love one-on-one situations. It’s what I enjoy most about football – dribbling, having the freedom to create something on the pitch. I try to help them settle in off the pitch. But the most important thing is: always be yourself. Work hard, but never lose the joy.”

Intense competition for Newcastle

The Langhus-born starlet has caught the eye of several leading European clubs, with Juventus, Bayern Munich, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace all showing significant interest. Newcastle’s hierarchy at St James’ Park face mounting pressure to act quickly after missing out on Spanish winger Victor Munoz, who opted to join Liverpool instead.

Key transfer decision ahead

Newcastle must ensure they act decisively in the transfer market to avoid losing ground to their domestic and European competitors. Nusa was previously close to a £25 million switch to Brentford in January 2024, but the deal fell through due to a medical concern. Since then, he has excelled in the Bundesliga, demonstrating his ability to bounce back. The young winger will aim to build on his promising World Cup form and create more scoring chances for Erling Haaland, with his continued performances likely determining whether a formal Premier League offer from Newcastle materialises.
