If you are a salaried employee and have PF contributions deducted from your salary every month, this news is for you. After being down for several days, the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) website—or the EPFO Portal—is back online. Along with the launch of the new portal, new rules have also been implemented.

The changes made to the portal will simplify various processes and introduce new procedures that are crucial for every salaried employee. Let’s take a look at the changes introduced in the new portal and how they will benefit millions of employees across the country.

What changes have been made to the portal?

The portal, which was previously shut down due to technical reasons, has been relaunched with several modifications. The facility for UAN activation directly on the portal has been discontinued, as has the facility for direct UAN allotment. However, the process for retrieving a forgotten UAN has been significantly simplified.

How can the UAN be activated now?
To activate your UAN, you will now need to use the UMANG app instead of the portal. The organization states that the objective is to make online services faster, more secure, and more reliable.

How to activate UAN using the UMANG app?

Download the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
Navigate to the 'EPFO Services' section.
Select the 'UAN Activation' option found under 'UAN Services Through Face Auth'.
Enter your Aadhaar number, UAN, and the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.

Enter the OTP received on your mobile number to proceed to the next screen.
Once the OTP is entered, a face-scanning window will open where you must complete face authentication (this requires the 'Aadhaar Face RD' app).
After the face scan is complete, you will receive a verification confirmation message. Subsequently, EPFO will send a password to your mobile number, completing the UAN activation process.

Finding your UAN has also become easier
The portal offers another special feature for those who have forgotten their UAN. You can now easily find your UAN through the portal. To do this, you need to enter your mobile number and an identity or address proof on the portal. You will then receive an OTP on your phone; as soon as you enter it, your UAN will be displayed.
