Meerut, 11 July. Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday met the family of the victim of Dalit student murder case in Meerut and assured them of getting justice. During this time, SP MP from Kairana Iqra Hasan was also present with him. After the meeting, Akhilesh raised questions on the action of the state government and the police and said that the people of Uttar Pradesh now want justice, not BJP’s speeches. Akhilesh Yadav alleged that a case was registered against the accused named in the case under light sections, while serious sections were imposed against the agitators demanding justice.
He termed it an injustice to the justice system and said that it is the height of injustice to the victim’s family. Posting on the social media platform ‘X’, the SP chief wrote, “When he himself is the one who has the reins in his hands, then what about him who is the doorman in his court.” He further wrote, “After the atrocities and murder of Meerut’s daughter, the way the named accused were booked under weak sections and the agitators were charged with serious sections, it is a travesty of justice. What is even more serious is that the top officials of the police, from which justice is expected, are showing injustice and arrogance to the general public.”
Questions raised on the image of UP Police
Akhilesh Yadav said that the videos to the incident have gone viral all over the world, due to which the image of Uttar Pradesh Police has been tarnished. He said that this has embarrassed even the honest policemen who do their work with sensitivity and devotion.
‘PDA will no longer tolerate, will say’
The SP chief said in his statement that “PDA will no longer tolerate, it will say.” He alleged that when women, especially bereaved mothers, are treated indecently at the top level of the state, it becomes difficult to expect justice from the police. He said that the people of the state now want justice and accountability, not just speeches.
