Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his sorrow regarding the unfortunate boat accident involving Indian nationals near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam. He extended his condolences to the families affected and assured that the Indian Embassy and Consulate are in constant communication with Vietnamese authorities to provide all possible assistance.

In a post on X, PM Modi conveyed his deep sadness upon hearing the news of the boat accident involving Indian citizens near Phu Quoc. He expressed heartfelt sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured survivors. He confirmed that the embassy and consulate are offering every possible support and are in regular contact with local officials.

The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of 15 Indian tourists. According to officials, the boat capsized near Hon May Rut Ngoai Island while carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members. The boat overturned approximately 400 meters (1,310 feet) from the largest island, Phu Quoc. Sources from the Andhra Pradesh government reported that three tourists from the state have been hospitalized.

Witnesses reported that nearby boats arrived at the scene before the border guards, navy, coast guard, and other emergency teams could initiate their operations, beginning the rescue of passengers from the water. Reports indicate that rescue efforts faced challenges as several passengers were trapped inside the capsized vessel.
