US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth said that Iran has taken a wrong decision and now it will have to pay the price. His statement came when America attacked Iran for the third time this week. While sharing the statement of US Central Command (CENTCOM) on social media platform X, Hegseth wrote, Iran made a very bad decision. Now he will have to pay the price for this.
According to CENTCOM, this was the third US attack on Iran this week. The US Army says that this action was taken because Iran had attacked a cargo ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to CENTCOM, the military operation was launched at 7:15 pm (US time) on Saturday evening. The US claims that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked the Cyprus-flagged container ship M/V GFS Galaxy.
Shortly before the US attack, Iran's IRGC Navy claimed that it intercepted and attacked a container ship. Iran says that this ship was trying to deviate from the designated sea route without permission. The ship did not stop even after several warnings, so action was taken. After this incident the tension between the two countries has increased further. America and Iran are accusing each other of worsening the situation.
CENTCOM said that Iran was given the opportunity to comply with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier also. Despite this he again attacked merchant ships. The US military said that in response it is continuously targeting Iran's military capabilities, which are used to attack civilian sailors and cargo ships.
Shortly after the American attacks, Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz was being closed again until further orders. Iran says that a bullet fired during its warning hit a ship which was passing through the sea route without permission. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said through the government news agency IRNA that until America stops interfering in the region, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed and no ship will be allowed to pass through there.
Iran also warned that if there are further attacks on it, it can also target other military bases of enemy countries present in the region. At the same time, according to Iranian government media, after the start of the American attacks, several explosions were heard in coastal cities like Bandar Abbas and Serik.
