Inter Miami will take on CF Montreal at 7:30 pm ET at Stade Saputo. The Herons came into this fixture after beating Robert Lewandowski and the Chicago Fire at Nu Stadium by a 3-2 margin.
The reality is that Luis Suarez produced a superb performance; he went on to win the Player of the Match award and also reached a significant milestone in the club’s history.
With Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul absent from that match, it was difficult to picture the Herons’ attacking force being the same as it is with the two Argentine stars in the side.
Although the Fire match took place last week, the big question around the story is whether Lionel Messi will play tonight against CF Montreal Impact.
It is rare to see Lionel Messi miss league matches. In fact, this is something we have hardly ever seen before. However, his rest period is compulsory under FIFA rules, and the Herons’ captain has also earned a deserved break after taking Argentina to the World Cup final.
So, yes. Just as in the previous game, Lionel Messi will not play tonight against the Canadian side on an important matchday for the Herons if they are to keep closing in on Nashville SC.
Even though the Argentine star is not expected to be on the pitch, it is worth remembering that the reason for his break is FIFA’s statement that players who were involved in the World Cup final must undergo a 21-day vacation period.
Even though this break is fully deserved, the GOAT is falling behind in the MLS Golden Boot race against Petar Musa, who has already matched Hugo Cruypers as the joint top scorer.
That said, even without Messi available, Inter Miami still have a strong enough team to beat CF Montreal.
