Sawan Rituals 2026: Sawan has started from today. There is a rush of Shiva devotees in the temples. This entire month is very dear to the Lord of Gods, Mahadev. During this period, worship done with true heart brings virtue and desired results. Crowds of devotees started gathering in the temples since morning. Everyone is offering water and puja materials to please their Lord. However, the full benefit of worship is available only when it is done in the right way and rules, hence it is very important to keep some things in mind while worshiping Mahadev in Saavan.
On the day of Sawan, wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this, take a resolution to worship by lighting a lamp in the home temple or a nearby Shiva temple. First of all anoint the Shivling with clean water, then with Panchamrit and finally with Ganga water. After this, make a Tripund of sandalwood and offer ashes. Now offer Belpatra, Dhatura, Bhang, Shami Patra and Aak flowers. After this, offer fruits and sweets to God. Finally, perform Aarti with incense sticks and keep chanting the mantra “Om Namah Shivay” in your mind during the entire puja. By worshiping in this way, the mind gets great peace and all the troubles of life go away.
The best time to offer water on Shivalinga is considered to be from Brahma Muhurta in the morning till 10 am. While offering water, always stand in the south direction and face north. North direction is considered to be the abode of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. Never offer water while standing in the east or north direction. It is best to use copper, brass or silver utensils for offering water. Keep in mind that never pour milk in a copper vessel and offer it. The stream of water should always be thin and continuous. First of all, offer water on the Jaladhari and finally offer water slowly on the main Shivalinga.
