NEET PG Exam 2026: There is welcome news for the lakhs of candidates preparing for the Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination (NEET PG). The Union Health Ministry has introduced several significant changes ahead of the exam. Candidates will now be able to select three preferred exam cities and will receive information regarding their exam center approximately three weeks prior to the test. Additionally, other measures have been implemented to make the examination process more convenient and transparent.

The NEET PG 2026 exam is scheduled for August 30. This year, over 2.73 lakh candidates have registered for the exam, marking an increase of approximately 12.5 percent compared to the previous year.

Multi-layered security arrangements will be implemented to ensure the exam is secure and fair. These measures include prior inspection of exam centers, CCTV surveillance, biometric verification, candidate frisking, signal jammers, live monitoring, and oversight by independent observers.

Facility to choose exam centers closer to home: Candidates will now be able to select three preferred states for their exam center. It will be mandatory to prioritize the state of their correspondence address. This will eliminate the need for students to travel to distant states to take the exam.

Advance information on exam city: Candidates will be informed of their exam city approximately three weeks before the examination. Previously, this information was often provided just a few days in advance, causing difficulties in arranging travel and accommodation.

Changes in exam pattern: NEET PG 2026 will feature 180 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), down from the previous 200 questions. The total duration of the exam will remain 210 minutes. With fewer questions, candidates will have more time to solve each question compared to before.

Exam to be held in a single shift: This time, the NEET PG exam will be conducted in a single shift. The Ministry believes this will ensure that all candidates receive a question paper of the same difficulty level and make the evaluation process fairer. Security arrangements will be further strengthened: Aadhaar verification, biometrics, and—if necessary—iris scans will be used during the examination. The entire process, from the preparation of question papers to their delivery at exam centers, is safeguarded by encryption and secure digital systems. Additionally, over 60,000 personnel will be deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination.
