Chelsea have checked the terms of a possible move for Julian Alvarez after holding talks with Atletico Madrid in London last Thursday.
Chelsea officials met Atletico Madrid to discuss a potential deal for Nicolas Jackson, with the Spanish club interested in the Senegal striker.
During those conversations, Chelsea are understood to have raised the possibility of signing Alvarez, who has told Atletico that he wants to leave.
The Argentina international is keen to leave Atletico for Barcelona and was jeered by Atleti supporters during the 2-2 draw with Villarreal at the weekend. Alvarez has already reached an agreement on personal terms with Barcelona, but Atletico are unwilling to sell to a La Liga rival.
According to journalist Nicolo Shira, Chelsea asked about Alvarez last week, while Arsenal are also interested in a deal. Atletico’s interest in Jackson, who earlier spent time in La Liga with Villarreal, could create a possible opening for an agreement.
However, any transfer would depend on Alvarez changing his position on a return to the Premier League, with the former Manchester City striker currently focused on joining Barcelona.
