Everton and Manchester United face off at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, with the home side unbeaten after two matches and the visitors aiming to build on their first win of the season.
David Moyes’s Everton are seventh with four points, while Michael Carrick’s United are 10th on three points after responding to an opening-day defeat to Hull City with a 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town.
United have won each of the last four meetings between the two sides, including both matches last season by the same 1-0 scoreline. Another such result would leave Moyes just one defeat short of matching Harry Redknapp’s Premier League record of 24 losses against the Red Devils.
Carrick, meanwhile, could join an elite group of five managers to have taken 45 or more points from their first 20 league games in a single spell at a club. That list includes Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte during their time at Chelsea.
Both clubs had a frantic deadline day. Everton sold Iliman Ndiaye to Manchester City and also saw a proposed move for Folarin Balogun fall through, but they did bring back Jack Grealish on loan from the same City side.

Christian Norgaard is the club’s only confirmed absentee. Jack Grealish is in contention to start on the left after rejoining on a season-long loan from Manchester City on deadline day, in the same switch that took Iliman Ndiaye to City. Brennan Johnson is expected to fill the creative role left vacant by Ndiaye’s departure.
Carlos Baleba, Manuel Ugarte and Amad Diallo are all unavailable because of injury, while Tom Heaton and Matthijs de Ligt remain doubts. There is more encouraging news regarding Luke Shaw and Mason Mount, who are both back in full training and available for selection, with Michael Carrick saying about Mount: “He’s back around the group, which was great. Everton are still unbeaten this season, having beaten Crystal Palace 2-0 before drawing 1-1 at Bournemouth thanks to a stoppage-time header from James Tarkowski. Thierno Barry has looked a consistent goal threat despite not getting on the scoresheet, posting more non-penalty expected goals than every Premier League player this season apart from Bryan Mbeumo and Alexander Isak.
Manchester United have bounced back from their opening-day loss at Hull City by beating Ipswich Town 5-2, with captain Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick to move to three goals for the season, the highest tally of any player in the division. United have conceded first in both of their league matches so far, and they have not begun a Premier League season by letting in the opening goal in three consecutive games since their title-winning 2012-13 campaign.
