Real Madrid may have begun their 2026-27 Champions League campaign with a win over Inter Milan, but it was by no means a flawless night. Jose Mourinho’s team spent large parts of the 90 minutes under pressure, and that was due in no small part to their failure to add to the two goals they scored at the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid passed up several major opportunities, and two of the clearest fell to Jude Bellingham. The England international has started the season in outstanding form, but Tuesday was not one of his better evenings — and he admitted as much while speaking to CBS Sports Golazo.

“It’s frustrating, but not for me personally because it’s just a goal. It’s more that we could’ve made the game easier for the team, I take responsibility. We’re defending a one-goal lead, backs to the wall, everyone will probably forget all the good things we did because we didn’t win 4-0 or 5-0, and that’s partly my fault. Brahim chipped it over and I was waiting for the ball to see it, it’s finally come and it looked a bit high so I thought do I head it in, but in the end I just got in my own head and I even still managed to get a good chance but the goalkeeper got back well to make the save. I had two sitters today. The goalkeeper did well, but I’ve just got to put the ball in the net.”

Bellingham was also asked about his experience at Real Madrid under Jose Mourinho, and he said the squad has fully bought into the Portuguese manager’s ideas.

“(Mourinho is) brilliant. He and his staff have been amazing at setting standards on and off the pitch. In terms of the values he wants his team to look like, we understand what he wants, and everyone is on board and behind them. I know he gave up a few chances here and lost to Betis, but I think we played pretty well – that’s all down to the manager and the intensity we play with. The two goals come from putting high pressure on the ball, which is something we didn’t do as well before.”
