Manchester United explored the possibility of signing both a striker and a left-back during the summer transfer window.

United’s pursuit of a new number nine depended on Joshua Zirkzee moving on, but by the time a suitable offer for the Dutch forward arrived from Everton on deadline day, there was no longer enough time to secure a replacement.

As a result, Zirkzee remained at Old Trafford, though doubts over his long-term future have not gone away, particularly as United have continued their search for a proven goalscorer.

According to TEAMtalk, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur both had representatives in Belgium on Tuesday to watch Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi.

At the same time, it is said that United’s delegation also used the visit to continue monitoring left-back Joaquin Seys.

It is understood that the Premier League club also made enquiries about the Club Brugge defender during the summer.

The 21-year-old Belgian is regarded as a player with outstanding pace and athletic ability, while also being a dependable defender.

United were unable to sign a left-back in the summer despite their interest in Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, but it appears the club’s decision-makers are still weighing up options for a future replacement for Luke Shaw.
