Thursday, September 20 was the birthday of Afghanistan's legendary spinner Rashid Khan. On this special occasion, he received two very precious gifts. First of all, his team registered a historic victory against South Africa. Afghanistan defeated South Africa by 177 runs in the second ODI match held in Sharjah and also won the 3-match ODI series 2-0. On the other hand, Rashid Khan took 5 wickets for just 19 runs in 9 overs. He has become the first bowler in the world to do so on his birthday in an ODI match.

Broad and Philander were left behind.

Rashid Khan defended 311 runs in Sharjah and sent Tony De Giorgi, Tristian Stubbs, Aiden Markram, Kyle Verreynne, and Wiayan Mulder to the pavilion. Rashid, who took 5 wickets on his birthday, not only defeated South Africa but also broke the record of the same country's legendary bowler Vernon Philander after 17 years.

Philander took 4 wickets for 12 runs against Ireland in ODI on his birthday in 2007. He became the first player to do so. England's legendary bowler Stuart Broad became the second player to take 4 wickets on his birthday in 2010. He took 4 wickets for 44 runs against Australia. Rashid has broken the record of both the legends and has become the player to take the most wickets on his birthday in ODI.

Born in 1998, Rashid Khan is now 26 years old. He made his international debut in 2015 in an ODI match against Zimbabwe. In the same year, he also made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe and 3 years later, in 2018, he played his first Test match against India. He made many records in his 9-year career.

He reached the top of the ICC ODI rankings at the age of just 17. He is the youngest player to do so. Rashid Khan is the fastest bowler to take 50 wickets in T20 International. He took 50 wickets in just 26 matches. He also holds the record for taking the fastest 100 wickets in this format. He did this feat in 44 matches.

South Africa was defeated.

Afghanistan batted first and gave South Africa a target of 312 runs. Chasing this target, the entire team was reduced to 134 runs. After captain Temba Bavuma was out on a score of 73 runs, Rashid Khan took over the bowling along with 20-year-old left-arm spin bowler Nangelia Kharote. Together, they took 9 wickets and completely defeated South Africa. Kharote supported Rashid and took 4 wickets for 26 runs in 6.2 overs.
