Legendary Manchester City player Shaun Wright-Phillips shared his opinion on the team’s ongoing supremacy in English football and gave insightful commentary on the City roster, applauding individual players like Erling Haaland.

On Sunday, Manchester City and Arsenal will play their sixth Gameweek matchup. The game is scheduled to take place at the Erihad Stadium and is scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM IST.

Wright-Phillips continued by praising Haaland’s growth over the years, especially in his all-around skill set, pointing out his rise in assists and his outstanding work ethic. Wright-Phillips dissected Haaland’s off-the-ball intelligence, citing a recent goal against Brentford, which caught Brentford defender Ethan Pinnock off guard and allowed Haaland to score calmly.

Indeed, he’s really different from other strikers, if not the whole globe, in my opinion. He has a way of staying out of the game for extended periods of time, but when you give him a touch in the box, it almost seems like he’s had many touches before that. He concentrates on a clean strike, particularly within the box, as soon as he has the opportunity. I think it’s a special talent. His improved all-around game is what has most impressed me throughout the years. He works hard and receives more help than people realize. His recent goal against Brentford summed him up as a promising young striker. Ederson pauses to allow Pinnock to strike him when he plays the ball over, which knocks Pinnock off balance. Wright-Phillips said in the Star Sports Press Room, “After that, Haaland knows he’s away, and it’s just about keeping composed and finishing the chance.”

The legend also spoke about how Erling Haaland was compared to players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and how he broke the Premier League goal-scoring record.

“How do you claim that it isn’t feasible? Many questioned if he could maintain his level of play in the Premier League throughout the years, but none could have anticipated that he would do what he achieved in his first season. He was injured for a portion of his second season but still managed to win the Golden Boot. After a protracted summer vacation, he returned ravenous. Even if he is exceptional, it is a testimony to the extraordinary team that surrounds him that opportunities are created. You would keep generating such opportunities as a midfielder because they almost always end up in,” he said.

It’s odd that he’s just recently being compared to Messi and Ronaldo, since his goal-scoring record before joining City shows that it was always there. The distinction is that he is now doing this while winning the Champions League and Premier League. Whether it’s for his club or his nation, he has always been reliable. It’s difficult to envision him not smashing records as long as you keep giving him opportunities, and hopefully, wherever he is at City, the 42-year-old said.
