Elon Musk-owned ‘X’ has confirmed it is making changes to the block button that will allow all public posts to be visible even to blocked accounts.

Musk clarified on X, following a tweet by former Tesla engineer and AI researcher Nima Owji that the platform's new policy will not allow blocked accounts to interact with users, but will still show up in their feeds.

“The block function will block that account from engaging with, but not block seeing, public posts,” he said.

This is not the first time that ‘X’ has tried to experiment with the platform. Earlier in May, it allowed tweet replies by a blocked account to be visible on feed.

Musk suggested that the block feature is outdated, arguing that it “doesn't make sense” and should be replaced with a more effective "mute" function.

The update has sparked debate among users, with those in favour calling it a step towards “free speech and transparency” aligning with Musk’s commitment to open conversations online.

It is unclear at this time when the amendment will show up, but the move will have implications on users’ safety and privacy.

Recently, X also faced a setback in Brazil over a failure to comply with court orders and pay existing fines, which ET reported.

Amid this chaos, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) may sanction Musk for skipping a scheduled deposition regarding his 2022 Twitter (now X) acquisition. Apparently, Musk canceled his deposition just three hours before it was supposed to start.

The investigation is to examine whether Musk or his associates committed securities fraud when he sold Tesla shares and made investment in Twitter in 2022.

Back in 2018, he agreed to step down and pay a $20-million fine for a tweet about potentially taking Tesla private.
