Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has won a contract to manufacture Wheeled Armored Platform (WhAP) Combat Vehicles for the Moroccan Defense Forces. Confirming this deal, the company said on social media platform It has been developed in partnership with DRDO and Tata Motors and is a significant achievement for us, as we expand our footprint globally as a defense OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
According to news agency ANI, the WhAP vehicles will be supplied to Moroccan forces over a period of three years. This contract is the biggest deal for Indian-made armored vehicles, be it the domestic market or the international market. Apart from this, Indian paramilitary forces have also placed orders for this indigenous armored vehicle.
The WhAP vehicle is completely designed and developed in India. It is an amphibious wheeled combat vehicle, which has been designed as per global standards. Its main focus is on modularity, scalability, and reconfiguration, allowing it to be adapted to different roles. The vehicle is capable of operating in difficult conditions, such as muddy or wet conditions, and can also withstand mine blasts.
Various variants of the WhAP such as the Infantry Protected Mobility Vehicle (IPMV) and paramilitary editions have already been inducted into the Indian Army and paramilitary forces. This vehicle is used to safely transport and support troops in war zones.
Let us tell you that WhAP vehicles have been extensively tested in Morocco for several months. During this period the vehicle has proved its strength and utility. During construction, DRDO teams will work with Tata Advanced Systems to incorporate necessary upgrades to the vehicle. This contract reflects India's defense production capability and its growing influence in the global market. Indigenous technology and such products manufactured by India's defense companies are not only strengthening the country's security, but their demand is also increasing across the world.
