Chandika Hathurusingha, the head coach of Bangladesh, offered his reflections after his side’s underwhelming performance in the two-match series’ final Test at Green Park, Kanpur.

From the standpoint of our performance, the loss is really devastating. We had never seen anything like India’s strategy before. Rohit and the Indian team deserve all the credit for taking that step and succeeding. As cited by the ICC, Hathurusingha said, “We didn’t react quickly enough.”

In the fourth-shortest Test match in history, Bangladesh lost by seven wickets due to a batting collapse on the penultimate day of play, which lasted only 173.2 overs. Bangladesh could only make it through one session, falling short of their goal of batting through the fifth day to rescue a tie. The incessant Indian onslaught claimed the lives of captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shadman Islam, Shakib Al Hasan, and Litton Das in less than twenty-one minutes.

Hathurusingha said, “Batting was disappointing in this series.” “We haven’t been playing to our ability in recent series, although several players did well in the last one. Our batting problems were partly caused by the caliber of opponents. We are learning a great deal from this series, which had a very high skill level. The hardest task is to face India in India, and this is the finest squad. We are aware of how much work remains.”

Bangladesh entered the series after a momentous visit to Pakistan, where they won both of their games to clinch a resounding victory. Hathurusingha knew, however, that dealing with India would be a much bigger obstacle.

“After defeating Pakistan, we traveled here, but we were aware that India would provide significant hurdles. It’s critical to avoid allowing our emotions to control how we function. We shouldn’t be too discouraged by this outcome since we didn’t overreact to our victory in Pakistan. We realize what we couldn’t do here to compete, and we know what we did successfully in Pakistan,” he said.

The head coach emphasized the necessity for development in order to compete against more formidable teams, acknowledging that his squad had been outplayed throughout the series.

“I believe that this series was entirely outplayed by us. It was clear that our ability levels differed, and we must become better. That said, we are unhappy that we did not perform to our best ability. If each player isn’t getting the proper support, there’s no use in placing too much pressure on them individually,” the 56-year-old said in closing.
