Prior to his meeting with Prime Minister Modi, President Muizzu stressed the need for financial assistance for his nation. Declaring that India is well aware of the financial difficulties facing the Maldives, he gave his word that Delhi, one of the country’s principal development partners, will keep helping to lessen the financial load.

Ever since President Muizzu took office in November of last year on a platform that included an “India Out” campaign, relations between India and the Maldives have been a little strained. His recent trip to India, nevertheless, indicates a desire to deepen relations. This is President Muizzu’s first formal bilateral visit. Four months before, he had been to India to witness the swearing-in of Prime Minister Modi’s administration.

Sunday marked President Muizzu’s arrival in New Delhi, and Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh met him at the airport. From October 6 to October 10, he will be visiting Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Agra throughout his five days there.

President Muizzu was greeted warmly by Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Randhir Jaiswal, who said, “This visit will further strengthen the comprehensive partnership between the two countries.”
