Mayank made his debut in Gwalior with Nitish Kumar Reddy, and the fast bowler made an impression with his speed variety. Additionally, he tied the record held by Ajit Agarkar by starting his T20I career with a maiden over.

The Lucknow Super Giants bowler made a splash the previous season in the Indian Premier League 2024, troubling the hitters with his sheer speed. However, Mayank’s IPL career came to an early end as he was forced to miss the remainder of the season due to a back injury.

However, the 22-year-old recovered from his injury and played in the first T20I Gwalior match against Bangladesh. Following the game, Mayank disclosed his pre-debut conversation with coach Gautam Gambhir.

He said, “Nothing extra; he asked me to stick to the basics and do the things that have yielded positive results for me in the past,” in a JioCinema interview. He advised me not to consider attempting new things too much or even to consider the game to be an international one. Observing the procedure was crucial.

Mayank also spoke about how, on the Gwalior surface, which provided very little bounce, he concentrated more on his line and length than on speeding.

“I paid greater attention to my body today. I was also resolved not to bowl quicker but to reach the appropriate distances. I was not considering my speed. I just attempted to bowl at the right line and length while letting up as few runs as possible.

“In the IPL, I did bowl a few slower balls, but not many. I spoke with my captain, and he advised me to stick to my stalk ball rather than experimenting with other ones. However, the wicket at Gwalior didn’t have much bounce, so I adjusted my tempo accordingly.”
