The Indian women’s cricket team will face Sri Lanka in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup match on Wednesday (October 9). India’s third Group A match is scheduled to take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India is coming into Wednesday’s match after defeating archrivals Pakistan by 6 wickets on Sunday (October 6), and on the other hand, Sri Lanka has lost both its matches played so far in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

A win over Sri Lanka in Dubai will boost India’s chances of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, whereas a defeat will push them closer to elimination. Sri Lanka defeated India in the last T20I match played between the two teams, but India enjoys a superior record against them in the Women’s T20 World Cup matches played so far.

Ahead of the India-Sri Lanka match in Dubai on Wednesday, here’s a look at how India has performed in five Women’s T20 World Cup matches played so far against them:

2009: India’s first match in the Women’s T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka was played in Taunton on June 15, 2009, and in that fixture, Women in Blue hammered the Sri Lankan team by five wickets. 2010: India crushed Sri Lanka by 71 runs in the 2010 Women’s T20 World Cup match played between the two teams in Basseterre on May 10, 2010. India rode on fifties from Sulakshana Naik (59) and Mithali Raj (52 not out) to post a total of 144 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs and then restricted Sri Lanka to 73-9 in 20 overs.

2012: India faced Sri Lanka in the 2012 Women’s T20 World Cup match at Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo on October 3, 2012, and won that fixture by 9 wickets. Sri Lanka could only manage to score 100 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs after opting to bat first, and India chased down the 101-run target in 14.4 overs for the loss of just one wicket.

2014: Sri Lanka secured its first and only Women’s T20 World Cup win over India in Sylhet on March 24, 2014.
