Ben Stokes, the captain of the Three Lions, said on Wednesday that Joe Root has established himself as England’s top run scorer in Test cricket and that it would take a lot of time for someone to surpass that mark.

Leading run scorer for the Three Lions in Test cricket, Joe Root, an England star, accomplished an incredible accomplishment on Wednesday by surpassing Alastair Cook.

On the third day of the England vs. Pakistan Test match in Multan, Root accomplished the feat. At the Multan Cricket Ground, the England batsman passed Cook’s record when he surpassed the 71-run threshold.

In a video that was posted on the England Cricket Board’s (ECB) social media account, Stokes remarked that Root is a selfless player who always prioritizes the team.

“The number of times his bat has kept us in the game. You know, turning these 50s into 100s doesn’t guarantee you a victory in this game, so forget about the conversion rate. Nonetheless, his selflessness is one of his greatest qualities. His numerous runs are merely a plus for us since he always prioritizes the team. He is a fantastic player. Someone is going to have to work very hard to beat that record very soon. And to score that many runs, you know, is just an incredible accomplishment,” Stokes said.

For England, Root has already amassed 12473 runs in the long format. In Test cricket, Cook amassed 12472 runs for the Three Lions.

When Root faced Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed in the 43rd over and took only one single, he broke the record. The English team’s locker room rose and began applauding the 33-year-old batsman shortly after he broke the mark.

Day three lunchtime saw England register 232/2 on the scoreboard, led by undefeated batsmen Ben Duckett and Joe Root, with scores of 80 and 72, respectively. In only 25 overs, the visitors had amassed 136 runs against Pakistan on Multan’s batting-friendly ground until lunch.

During the first inning of the first Test match at Multan, Pakistan scored 556 runs. The leading run scorers for the hosts were Abdullah Shafique (102), Shan Masood (151) and Agha Salman (104*).

The England playing eleven are: Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Jack Leach, Shoaib Bashir, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Jamie Smith (WK), Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope (C), and Zak Crawley.

The playing eleven for Pakistan is as follows: Agha Salman, Aamer Jamal, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Saud Shakeel, and Mohammad Rizwan (WK).
