The national spokesperson for the Congress, Pawan Khera, said on Friday that the state of democracy in Uttar Pradesh (UP) is questionable, hours after Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the UP government for allegedly preventing his visit to the Jay Prakash Narayan International Centre (JPNIC) on the anniversary of the freedom fighter’s birth to pay respects.

“Democracy in Uttar Pradesh is in doubt if someone cannot even be permitted to pay respects. There are issues when someone is placed under house arrest and is unable to pay their respects, the Congress leader said.

On Thursday night, tin sheets were used to blockade the entrances of the JPNIC located in Uttar Pradesh.

Taking to social media, an irate Akhilesh Yadav expressed his frustration, writing on X, “This is the ostentatious Amritkal of freedom under the BJP’s government. So that people could not make tributes, a wall was erected. The road that the BJP has blocked is a representation of its narrow-minded viewpoint. Every liberation warrior who participated in the nation’s independence movement, including Jai Prakash Narayan Ji, is hated and maligned by the BJP.

Even on the anniversaries of their birth, the BJP colleagues are unable to honor the revolutionaries because of the remorse they feel for not participating in the nation’s independence war. Repugnant!” he said.

The Congress National Spokesperson criticized the AAP and said that they should concentrate on people’s issues rather than getting embroiled in the pointless debate about Delhi Chief Minister Atishi’s lack of a bungalow.

“These conflicts pale in comparison to the objectives of the people of Delhi. The Congress leader said that attention needs to be directed there rather than getting drawn into the pointless controversy surrounding the CM’s home.

Pawan Khera said of the Kerala Assembly’s adoption of a resolution rejecting the “One Nation, One Election” program, “These are diversionary tactics used by Prime Minister Modi to deflect attention. There is no rationale for ideas like “One Nation, One Election,” particularly in a democracy with a federal system. It is in opposition to both the federal government and the constitution.”

Speaking about the Congress party’s future in the new Jammu and Kashmir government, Pawan Khera said, “These decisions are made through proper procedures after discussions and meetings.” Omar Abdullah’s National Conference party now has the backing of four independent leaders, placing him ahead of the majority.
