Dubai, October 21 South Africa failed miserably in their attempt to set a new record for the fastest run chase in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 final. Laura Wolvaardt, the captain, said that the team needs to think about how they did.

“I believe we should carefully consider what occurred.” We’re still pretty new. But yeah, I think we were still backing ourselves up to chase a bit at the halfway point. “It’s going to be a record-run chase, but we got off to a great start,” Laura said in the interview after the game.

South Africa once again felt terrible sadness. The team lost to Australia in the final of the 2023 women’s T20 World Cup and failed to win their first title again, despite the best efforts of their captain.

At the end of the game, Wolvaardt had scored the most runs and gotten his team off to a great start in the run chase. The Proteas were 47/0 at the end of the Power Play, but Tazmin Brits and the captain were quickly bowled out, and the team could not get back on track.

“I was sure the game was over after that (Power-play).” But yeah, after that, they really squished you. I don’t think that overs 7–11 was our best time. “But they did a good job; they were all in that phase,” she said.

Even though there is a dark cloud over the players’ futures, South Africa will be happy and excited for the future of the team because they have already shown they can beat the best teams in the world.

They beat Australia, who had won the tournament six times, in the quarterfinals, which is an impressive performance.

The captain said great things about the team’s future and showed love to the more senior players as well. “Really exciting. There are some very experienced players, like Marizanne Kapp, but there are also some great young players coming up.

“There are also some young players on the bench who didn’t get to play in the World Cup but have been very exciting in previous series.” The captain said, “Okay, we’ll just keep building, go back to the throwing board, and hopefully have a good next World Cup.”
