Jamie Oliver's 'utterly delicious' healthy breakfast recipe using one unusual ingredient

If you feel stuck in the same old breakfast routine, you may be in search of some fresh and inspiration.

Luckily, has shared some of his favourite nutritious breakfast that will shake up your morning meals.

One of the recipes in question is breakfast couscous, with the celebrity chef claiming this ingredient "doesn't only have to be savoury".

"It actually makes a beautifully tasty and easy healthy breakfast recipe," he said. "When mixed with dried fruits, nuts and spices; and served with seasonal fruit; it's utterly delicious."

"Couscous lends itself perfectly to being eaten for breakfast," Jamie said.

"It can be steamed in a couscoussiere or simply left to soak in boiling water for 10 minutes, then fluffed up with a fork."

Jamie Oliver's breakfast couscous

Ingredients

  • 200g couscous
  • 30g raisins
  • 30g flaked almonds
  • 30g pine nuts
  • 30g shelled unsalted pistachios
  • 2-3 pinches of ground cinnamon (to taste)
  • 2-4 tablespoons icing sugar (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon rosewater (optional)
  • 1 orange (optional)
  • 200ml skimmed milk

Method

  • First, prepare the couscous by placing it in a bowl and covering it with 500ml boiling water. Leave it to stand for 10 minutes, until the water is absorbed before fluffing it up with a fork.
  • Soak the raisins in lukewarm water for 15 minutes until softened, then drain.
  • Place the almonds and pine nuts in a dry frying pan over a medium heat and toast them. Stir for two to three minutes, until golden brown.
  • Roughly chop up the pistachios and add to the couscous. Then, add the raisins, almonds, pine nuts, cinnamon, sugar and rosewater (if using) and toss together gently.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature with a few gratings of orange zest (optional) to garnish. Warm and serve the milk on the side for pouring over.
