Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting was held in Delhi regarding Maharashtra Assembly elections. In this meeting the remaining seats of Maharashtra were discussed. Sources say that the second list of Congress candidates may be released on Friday night or Saturday. Voting will be held on 288 assembly seats of Maharashtra in a single phase on November 20.
Congress on Thursday released the first list of 48 candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections, which included the names of State Congress Committee President Nana Patole, former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar and many other senior leaders.
Regarding the meeting, AICC campaigner and Congress leader Ramesh Chennithalla said that an online meeting will be held tomorrow. After this the complete list will come by tomorrow evening. There is no difference in MVM. The complete list will come tomorrow.
After several days of deadlock, the MVA on Wednesday announced the seat sharing formula for the 288-member state assembly elections. Under this, it was announced that Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress and Sharad Pawar faction of NCP will contest on 85 seats each, while discussions are still going on to seal the final agreement.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Organization General Secretary KC Venugopal, State in-charge Ramesh Chennithala, State Congress Committee President Nana Patole and some other senior leaders from Maharashtra attended the CEC meeting held at the party headquarters.
There is also talk that the three parties involved in Mahavikas Aghadi are talking about dividing the remaining 33 seats among themselves and some among smaller parties. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut had indicated on Thursday that the allies of Mahavikas Aghadi may exchange some seats among themselves.
This meeting of Congress CEC was to be held last week itself, but the meeting was postponed due to differences between the leaders of Mahavikas Aghadi. However, Karva Chauth was cited behind this. It is also being discussed that Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena is adamant on the demand for more seats, but the leaders of Congress and NCP are not ready. Recently, Uddhav Thackeray had also met Sharad Pawar to end the differences regarding seats.
