Delhi government has brought in an "anywhere registration" scheme for properties to reduce applicant congestion at some of the busiest sub-registrar offices in the city, removing jurisdictional boundaries across 22 offices, reported TOI.
Delhi will function as a single district for registering documents like sale deeds, wills, rent agreements, and contracts under the new policy. People will have the choice to select any sub-registrar office as per their convenience by booking an online appointment.
Earlier, people had to visit a specific sub-registrar office to register property sale deeds and other documents. This would lead to challenges like long waiting lines and delays in booking appointments at some offices, while while others remained underutilised.
"The anywhere registration policy is being introduced to resolve these problems. Under this policy, anyone seeking property registration can go to any sub-registrar office in Delhi. Residents will no longer be limited to just one designated office for property registration," said Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, adding that this move aims to enhance transparency by weeding out middlemen, and curbing corruption.
About 2,000 documents across 28 categories are registered at everyday at Delhi's 22 sub-registrar offices. While some offices handle around 50 applications a day, others receive up to 150. Around 1.25 lakh documents were registered across these offices in 2022.
Some of the busiest offices include Janakpuri, Kashmere Gate, Model Town and Pitampura, while Sarojini Nagar, Preet Vihar and Defence Colony witness fewer applications on day-to-day basis. The government had appointed joint sub-registrars at six of the busiest offices to help manage the crowds recently.
Applicants will need to book appointments online, and the new National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) allows them to upload required documents for sale deeds, power of attorney, and wills from home, make payments, and then visit the sub-registrar office to complete the remaining formalities.
