Shubman Gill breaks MAASIVE record of Cheteshwar Pujara, features in elite WTC list topped by Rohit Sharma

New Delhi: On the second day of the third Test match being played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai Indias young batter Shubman Gill created history by playing a brilliant innings against New Zealand. On the second day Shubman Gill handled one end strongly and worked with Rishabh Pant to take the innings forward. Both of them shared a 96-run partnership for the 5th wicket. Rishabh Pant became the victim of Glenn Phillips after scoring 60 runs. After this Ravindra Jadeja (14) and Sarfaraz Khan returned to the pavilion after getting out cheaply. During this Gill maintained the pace of runs in his personal account while handling one end. However when he came close to his century he was deceived by a brilliant ball from Ajaz Patel and gifted his wicket. In this way Shubman Gill missed out on scoring a century. Gill remained just 10 runs away from the century. This is the fourth time that he has fallen prey to nervous nineties. Shubman Gill Leapfrogs Cheteshwar Pujara In Elite WTC List: Meanwhile the knock helped Shubman Gill leapfrog Cheteshwar Pujara and become the fourth-highest run scorer for India in the World Test Championship (WTC). Pujara scored 1769 runs for India in the WTC. Rohit Sharma is Indias leading run-scorer in the WTC with 2674 runs while Kohli follows him with 2426 runs. Rishabh Pant is the third-highest run scorer for India in WTC with 1933 runs. Indian players who got out in the most nervous nineties at the age of 25: 6 times - Rishabh Pant 5 times - Sachin Tendulkar 5 times - Rahul Dravid 4 times - Virat Kohli 4 times - Shubman Gill* Shubman Gill may not have completed his Test century but he made many big records on the basis of his innings of 90 runs. Gill hit 7 fours and 1 six in his innings. With this the young Indian batsman left behind many batsmen including Rohit Sharma. In fact before this match Shubman Gill was ranked 15th in terms of scoring the most runs in the World Test Championship 2023-25 but after this innings he has made it to the top 10. Gill has now become the highest run-scorer in the current WTC cycle. Gill has left behind Rohit Sharma Saud Shakeel Ben Stokes Rachin Ravindra and Dhananjay de Silva by playing a brilliant inning in this match.
